Day 1, Sydney CBD - Cobbitty, NSW (72kms)
After months of preparation and several days of nervous anticipation, the CowFunders assembled at The Rocks, under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to commence Day 1 of the ‘Cows to Kosciuszko’ charity ride. Sydney, which had been inundated with rain in the week preceding, turned on a sparkling spring morning.
All was well in the world as the CowFund cyclists made their way up George Street and the Support Team (Jason, Kate, Dallas and Fiona), led by the Geoff King Motors Courtesy Bus, moved ahead to establish drink stations and assist with navigation. It was Grand Final Day in the Harbour City and the team were spurred on (especially through Canterbury) by enthusiastic supporters of CowFund dressed in blue and white. 72 kms later, the weary team dragged themselves up a hill in Cobbity, to a reception from Peter and Trish Murray, which caused all (well, most) aches and pains to immediately diminish. The night was spent in very welcome country accommodation and the team was sustained by a palatial spread prepared by Peter and Trish.
